Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Inhabits exposed live or dead coral heads from 0 to 50 m in areas with strong currents (Ref. 800). Some individuals found to have incompletely exposed arms under edges of dead Acropora sp. (Ref. 100368). Associated with shrimps, lobsters, a polychaete, and fish (Refs. 800, 102254, 102275). Suspension feeder (Ref. 66823).

Life cycle and mating behavior Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae

Members of the class Crinoidea are gonochoric. During spawning, the pinnule walls rupture and the eggs and sperms are shed into the seawater. Life cycle: Embryos elongate into free-swimming larvae (doliolaria) which later sink to the bottom where they metamorphose into stalked sessile crinoid.
