Thick crusts to branching. Brown to tan externally, lighter internally. Surface armored with cortical plates and a pattern of grooves with the inhalant surface. Hard and tough (Ref. 415).
Rare; shallow reef and seagrass beds habitats (Ref. 415) and mangrove ponds (Ref. 86789). Found on rocky and rubble substrates (Ref. 83912).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
