Culmen: 2.555 cm; tarsus: 3.675 cm; wing: 20.15 cm (Ref. 356). Medium-sized duck; male: blue overall; white slashes on shoulder, neck and back; white spots on head and neck; chestnut flanks; female: brown overall; white ear spot (Ref. 94965).
Depth range based on occurrence (Ref. 115936), to be replaced with a better reference. Surface diving; dabbling; coastal. Diet: Crabs (mainly Hemigrapsus nudus, Pagurus spp.), gastropods, polychaetes, amphipods, chitons, Mytilus edulis, limpets, barnacles, Clupea pallasi (eggs) and algae (Ref. 3985).
