Short description Morfologi

Girdle: Wide with an elongated extension at the head valve giving rise to common name of 'jockey-cap chiton.' Bristles: Sparsely scattered on this smooth fleshy girdle, heavier on the 'cap' area. Mucro: Posterior and depressed. Central areas: Smooth. Lateral areas: Raised and defined by wide diagonal rib and smooth. Whole surface of the valves: Marked with concentric growth lines. Color of valves: Variable in pink, green, blacks and mottled. Girdle: Cream colored, bright pink in life (Ref. 296).

Usually found in areas of moderate wave action or tidal flow, on the tops, sides, and bottoms of rocks, under ledges, and in crevices; in Oregon, often found in sea-urchin excavations in bedrock exposed to heavy surf (Ref. 290).
