Globular, up to about 7 cm in diameter. Emerald to drab green, occasionally orange externally, lighter to orange internally. Tough, somewhat compressible. Verrucose surface. Volcano shaped oscules with transparent membranes less than 0.5 cm wide. Some specimens are covered with thin processes, and occasionally with buds (Ref. 415).
Common in mangrove and seagrass beds (Ref. 415).

Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge.
