Found in muddy bottoms of estuarine and inshore areas (Ref. 96352), from the infralittoral (Ref. 85338) to sublittoral zones (Ref. 96352). Solitary (Ref. 2377). A filter feeder (Ref. 96292); microvore that feeds on organic detritus (Ref. 96352); also a carnivore-scavenger (Refs. 96313, 96352).

Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end.
