Short description Morphology

Formation: hemispherical to flat. Valley: 12 to 15 mm wide, highly sinuous. Polyp: walls have moderately thick fleshy appearance, often with a groove along the top. Color: brown, gray, or green; either mottled or with walls and valleys in contrasting colors (Ref. 848).

Occurs in upper reef slopes and fringing reefs (Ref. 848). Inhabits a wide range of depths and may be more resistant to increased temperatures (Ref. 98471).

Hermaphroditic (Ref. 113712). Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end (Ref. 833).
