Small cephalopods (less than 50 mm mantle length); with 8 arms and 2 functional retractile tentacles. Internal shell absent. Light organ absent. Dorsal mantle fused to head. Ventral mantle attached to funnel by fixed ligament or by plug-and-socket type funnel locking apparatus. Ventral arms hectocotylized in males. Nektobenthic in coastal waters to depths of 60 m. Typically associated with soft substrates and seagrass beds (Ref. 346).
