Girdle: Medium wide; sandy, fleshy and thickly covered with bristles. Murco: Highly posterior. Central areas: Granulose cross ribbing with those cross ribs coming from the jugal area heavier until they meet midway the heavier cross ribs coming from the lateral areas. Lateral areas: Broad-ribbed. Color of valves: Black with occasional white stripe down sides of dorsal ridge. Color of girdle: Cream with reddish brown hairs and granular (Ref. 296).
Habitat: Intertidal (Ref. 289); found in mid to high tide zones from Puget Sound to Mexico on rocks, in crevices or among barnacles and mussels (Ref. 312). Occurs from mid to high tide mark.

Members of the class Polyplacophora are mostly gonochoric. Life cycle: Eggs hatch into lecitotrophic planktonic trocophore larvae (no veliger stage) which later metamorphose and settle on the bottom as young adults.
