Additional Characters Each embryo is surrounded by the following membranes: the egg covering, egg capsule, coiled capsule tube, and the external limiting membrane which is layered, the outer layer being somewhat fibrous in nature, the inner resembling the coiled capsule tube. Each capsule is provided with an oval trap-doorlike structure, which is a means of escape for the veliger at hatching (Ref. 105320).
