Biology: | Wingspan: 63 to 71 cm (Ref. 8812). Generally forages far offshore and feeds by seizing prey while sitting on the water or while hovering. Usually forages alone, but may join mixed species flocks. Unlike most of its congeners, it feeds mostly on fish, mainly lantern fishes (Myctophidae) and hatchetfishes (Sternoptychidae), although squid (Ommastrephidae) are also important (Ref. 122680). | |||
