Distribution:  Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Subtropical to polar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in shallow waters <50 m depth, but absent along the continental coast. Found in areas of fine sand (Ref. 96391). Colonial (Ref. 19). Sessile (Ref. 3123). Suspension feeder (Ref. 118257). Found at depths of 3 to 2200 m (Ref. 120471).
