Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific.
Diagnosis:  Colony: encrusting, thick plates, or columnar. Surface: smooth, columns may be large and reach 1 m in height. Corallites: alternating long and short fine septal spines. Polyp: truncated tips, giving a squared appearance. Tentacle: six large tentacles may alternate with six small tentacles. Color: uniformly pale or dark brown (Ref. 848).
Biology:  Occurs on protected upper reef slopes (Ref. 848).
