Known from 50000 to 60000 m west of Bahia Tortugas and Todos Santos Bay, southern Baja California based on occurrence record (Ref. 1397, p. 16); Mustang Island, north Padre Island and south Padre Island, Texas (Ref. 79025). Northeastern coasts of Yucatan peninsula; Quintana Roo State; Cape Catoche; Contoy Island to Ascencion Bay; Carmen port; Cozumel island; and Boca Paila beach are important breeding grounds. Length ranges from 25 to 92 cm curved carapace length. Nesting period in Quintana Roo occurs from April to 1st week of August, with the peak of May or June. Species found in Baja California have 25 to 92 cm curved carapace length. In Quintana Roo, Female have 73 to 109 cm; mean of 90.5 carapace length; male have 75.3 to 99.5 cm carapace length. Mean weights of females are 65700 g; males, 101400 g. Number of eggs per clutch: 68 to 188 eggs per clutch with a mean of 97 in Mujeres Island; 45 to 183 eggs with a mean of 103.5. Egg diameter for 10,100 eggs in Quintana Roo, 4.3 cm was obtained. Egg weight: 10 eggs per clutch in Mujeres Island, Quintana Roo weighs 35.2 to 48.7 g with a mean of 40.7 g for 23 clutches; mean weight for 10,100 eggs located at the continental beaches of the same state is 36 g. Mean incubation period is 56 days. Size of hatchlings ranges from 3.8 to 5.05 cm with a mean length of 4.53 cm and weight of 24.2 g for 438 individuals (Ref. 1397). |
