Short description Morphology

Colony: small, less than 40 mm across, either hemispherical or encrusting. Septa: rarely connecting long and short fine spines. Color: distinctive dark green, tentacles tipped with a white stripe (Ref. 848).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Found only in shallow, partly wave washed rocky foreshores, among algae and soft corals (Ref. 848). Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end (Ref. 833).
