Commonly found in nearshore, cold temperate to subpolar waters. Feeds on all oceanic cetaceans, pinniped, penguins, and other seabirds, leatherback turtles, squid and many types of fish (Refs. 1394, 936). Transient migration (Ref. 8689). Length at first maturity ranges from 570 to 660 cm for females and 670 to 800 cm for males (Ref. 75906).
